Second-generation X3, going up a size allowing X1 more room at the lower end of the market. Base turbodiesel at launch with stop–start, reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Variable damper control (although dampers were firm) and electric power steering, making for a driver’s car. Turbocharged six good for 306 PS. Decent power and torque from diesel units; fairly economical line-up. Some wind noise.
