From AutocadeFile:1989 Holden Commodore.jpg Holden Commodore (VN/VG). 1988–91 (prod. 215,180 all VN variants). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door utility. F/R, 1998 cm³ (4 cyl. OHC), 3791 cm³ (V6 OHV), 4987 cm³ (V8 OHV). Commodore finally sized up to Falcon bulk. Derived from new generation of Opels (Senator B, Omega A) but far wider and more utilitarian in appearance. New drivetrain as well as new body, but narrow track evolved from 1978 Commodore. Other compromises in design as well from Opel Senator B base. Wagon on longer wheelbase, for the first time. Buick V6 replaced Nissan unit but was less refined; return of utility (VG series) for the first time in half a decade, in 1990. Last series with four-cylinder (for export only). Twinned with Toyota Lexcen these years. Series II in 1990 with some improvements, though overall a flawed vehicle. Five millionth Holden made as part of this series.
