Toyota found itself with dropping sales in the Mark II and Chaser market, prompting a rethink. Mark X was sportier and higher quality, using the Crown platform; however, it was well priced. The new line worked, and Mark Xs were even sold in China as the Toyota Reiz, as the company focused on selling big cars there. The Mark X Zio, meanwhile, used the same model name, but was in fact a crossover based on the Toyota Auris platform.
