A more sporting, more compact version of the [[Range Rover]]. The original Sport was based on a [[Land Rover Discovery]] platform, restyled to resemble the Range Rover more, and with the focus more on on-road performance. True to Land Rover form, however, and thanks to its underpinnings, it was still capable off-road. The second-generation Sport, launched 2013, was based on the Range Rover that had made its début last year, and was billed as the most thoroughly tested Land Rover to date. Much was made of the features it had inherited from the larger car, including a computer program (Terrain Response 2) that could “read” the terrain, while the new Sport was also a stormer on the road, where many tended to wind up (New York was the original Range Rover Sport’s biggest-selling city).

Not as striking as Range Stormer concept on which Sport is supposedly based. Usual Range Rover looks but slightly sleeker and, as name suggests, actually more sporting. Based on Discovery platform, so less obscenely big compared with regular Range Rover, but still heavy. More conventional tailgate, tighter suspension, but still workable off-road.
