Revision as of 13:57, 16 April 2011Opel Rekord. 1971–7 (prod. 1,128,196). 2- and 4-door saloon, 5-door estate, 2-door coupé. F/R, 1698, 1897, 1979 cm³ (4 cyl. CIH), 2068 cm³ diesel. Sportier-looking Rekord, taking on cues from sportier Manta A. Advertising called the car Rekord II initially, for fear of confusing Rekord D with a diesel, though a diesel was finally launched in 1972, with a hump in the bonnet. Same length as before, but narrower and lower. Engine changes in 1976, with introduction of two-litre for Rekord S; more luxurious Berlina trim introduced. Above-average handling, comfortable seats, fairly economical. Built under licence in Korea by Saehan, which had Premier and Royale trims, the latter with the Commodore front end; also twinned with Chevrolet 2500, 3800 and 4100 in South Africa and Ranger B in the Benelux countries and Switzerland.
