Austin Apache. 1971–8 (prod. 21,655 sold in South Africa). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1275 cm³ (I4 OHV). Michelotti-designed saloon based around the BMC ADO16, with shared doors and windscreen, and rear lights and outer parts of the bumper from the Triumph Mk II. Leykor saw the Apache as a way to keep the ADO16 fresh for the 1970s, especially as other mid-sized cars had grown—the longer boot gave the impression of a larger car. Good initial reports, and a convincing refresh. TC model (though not actually twin cam) with 75 PS added in 1973.

Manufacturing location: Blackheath, Gauteng, South Africa

Marque: Austin | Predecessors: Austin 11/55 Mk II, Wolseley 11/55 Mk II

q.v. Austin Victoria
