Volvo 260/Volvo 262/Volvo 264/Volvo 265. 1974–85 (prod. 177,402; sep. source lists 3,329 262, 131,500 264, 35,132 265). 2- and 4-door saloon, 5-door estate, 4-door LWB saloon. F/R, 2127 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2383 cm³ diesel (I6 OHC), 2664, 2849 cm³ (V6 OHC). Luxury version of 240 series, built at a new plant in Sweden. Similar to 240 series, but more power from PRV V6 2·7 engine developed in association with Peugeot and Renault. Two-door saloon made for US market and very rare, separate from 262C coupé. Diesel from 1979, with an engine in cooperation with Volkswagen. While most 260-series models were six-cylinder cars, a handful of four-cylinder ones were made for the US in 1980 and 1981. Larger V6 from 1980. All models renamed 260 for 1983 as Volvo changed its numbering system. Some LWB models built by factory, including 264TE for East Germany. Deleted 1985 as 760 came on stream.
