From AutocadeVolkswagen 1500/Volkswagen 1600 (Typ 3). 1961–73 (prod. 2,583,015, incl. 1,202,483 Variant). 2-door saloon, 2-door fastback saloon, 3-door estate. R/R, 1493, 1594 cm³ (F4 OHV). Volkswagen attempts to break away from offering only the Käfer, Bulli and Karmann-Ghia. Air-cooled, rear-wheel drive. Notchback saloon initially, Variant following in 1962, fastback in 1965, along with larger engine that year. Facelift in 1970. Never as successful as the Käfer.
