Volkswagen Sharan (Typ 7N). 2010–22 (prod. n/a). 5-door MPV. F/F, F/A, 1390, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1968 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC). Second-generation Sharan, replacing long-lived, dynamically uncompetitive model which dated from the mid-1990s. Longer, wider and lower, with longer wheelbase (a 75 mm increase to 2,919 mm). Rear doors now slide, rather than hinge conventionally; middle row of seats also slide. Twinned only with SEAT Alhambra (7N); no Ford equivalent this time. Dull-looking interior, but very good ride; handling and responsiveness greatly improved over predecessor but not class-leading. More efficient engines released 2015.
