Celica goes front-drive, on to Corona FF platform, and gains a very contemporary style in the process. Attractive glasshouse for coupés, with blacked-out B and C pillars. Related to Toyota Corona (T160) coupé, as well as Toyota Carina ED (ST160) hardtop. Turbocharged GT-Four from 1986, with full-time four-wheel drive and electronically controlled central locking differential. Mid-term changes in 1987, with convertible added that year. DOHC for all models on the home market from 1988. Supra now a distinct line on a separate platform.
