2013 Tesla Model S.jpg

Tesla Model S (Whitestar). 2013 to date (prod. n/a). 5-door sedan. R/R, F/R/A, 60, 70, 75, 85, 90, 100 kWh electric. Tesla’s luxury sedan, made in its own factory, delivering 560 kW in its top form. Styled by Franz von Holzhausen, who penned the Pontiac Solstice, with low Cd of 0,24. Excellent, immediate power delivery from batteries, and very little pitch and roll. Very good grip and ride, though not as polished as other luxury sedans. Seventeen-inch central touch screen replacing dashboard buttons, though curiously the system lacked Apple Carplay and Android Auto integration. “Supercharging” by way of a software update for most models, at extra cost. Still some range anxiety but a more convincing effort than Roadster. S D (D for dual motor) from 2014, with an extra engine at front to power front axle, making it all-wheel-drive; performance 85 kWh model, P85D, could reach 60 mph in 3·2 s, the same as a McLaren F1; extra motor boosted range by 10 miles to c. 275 miles. Even more powerful 100 kWh models from 2016; this became the default pack for the S, as lesser ones were deleted.

Manufacturing location: Fremont, California, USA

Marque: Tesla
