New platform, now a monocoque with a ladder frame welded to the floorpan. Longer and wider than before, though interior storage not the best. Larger 2·4 from 2008, when range facelifted with new front bumper and grille. Further refresh in 2012. Well equipped, and more car-like to drive. Renamed Escudo 2·4 in Japan when Hungarian-built Vitara was launched there as the Escudo in 2015. Japanese production to 2017.
