Marcello Gandini-styled update of Michel Boue’s classic 5 design. Marketed as the Supercinq in France, although the badging never reflected this. Larger and more aerodynamic. Transverse powertrain; simpler suspension with MacPherson struts. September 1984 launch; five-door from May 1985, with extra 6 cm in length. Diesel from November 1985. Revisions in 1988. New trim levels in 1990, with range rationalized after introduction of Clio in 1991.
