Porsche 944. 1981–91 (prod. 163,192). 3-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 2479. 2681 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2479, 2990 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Very successful successor to 924, with more aggressive looks, the front end inspired by the 924 Carrera GT. New 2·5-litre engine, developed by Porsche, later with displacement increased to 2·7. Power output changes through the run due to catalytic converter and tuning. S saw addition of four-valve engine. S2, with 3·0-litre, replaced S for 1989 model year. Turbo (Typ 951) from 1985, with 220 PS; Turbo S from 1988 model year with 250 PS. In 1989, the regular Turbo gained the Turbo S’s engine.
