From AutocadePontiac Grand Prix (W-body). 1988–96 (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé, 4-door sedan. F/F, 2261 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2836, 3135, 3791 cm³ (V6 OHV), 3352 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Fifth-generation Grand Prix adopts front-drive, winning the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in its first year. Turbo 3·1 débuted as limited-edition model in 1989, and became a regular one in 1990, before deletion after 1991. Sedan introduced in 1990, replacing the 6000, while the 2·8 was deleted in favour of the 3·1. Quad-4 2·3 introduced in 1990 as the base engine, but this only lasted till 1992, when a 140 hp 3·1 took over. Twin-cam V6 becomes optional in 1991, when GT coupé replaced Turbo. Sedan facelifted in 1992, with a “light-bar” grille, with ABS an option on higher models. Four-speed auto option in 1993—this becomes the standard transmission the following year. Interior redesigned for 1994 to incorporate dual airbags, while GT package made available to sedans that year, and horsepower gains to 3·1 and 3·4.
