Opel Isuzu
From AutocadeThe US had been selling Opel Asconas and Mantas at Buick dealers, but when the Deutschemark-to-dollar exchange rate proved unfavourable, the decision was made to source future Opels from Isuzu of Japan. It made some sense: with the T-car programme, Isuzu was making an Opel design, so GM wasn’t exactly lying to the consumer when it offered the original Gemini as the Opel Isuzu for the 1976 model year, touting German design with Japanese quality. The name didn’t stick: by 1977, the Gemini was offered as the Buick/Opel.
