Infiniti J30.jpg

Nissan Leopard J. Ferie (JY32). 1992–6 (prod. 7,300 approx. sold in Japan only). 4-door sedan. F/R, 2960 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 4130 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Daft name for third-generation Leopard, now available only as a four-door sedan, rivalling Toyota Windom (VCV10). Exported to US, where it was designed, as Infiniti J30. After rejecting curves for much of the 1980s, Nissan went the opposite direction with J. Ferie, but the bulbous looks restricted interior and boot space, and was out of step with expectations for a premium car. Looked like an enlarged Nissan Bluebird (U13). Well appointed, including seats from Poltrona Frau of Italy (copying a similar move for the Mazda Sentia (HD)), and very high quality given its premium-marque aspirations Stateside, but recession did not help. First passenger-side airbag for a Japanese car. Above-average handling but poor performance and fuel economy.

Manufacturing location: Tochigi, Tochigi, Japan

Marque: Nissan | Model: Nissan Leopard | Predecessor: Nissan Leopard (F31) | Successor: Nissan Leopard (JY33)
