Successor firm to Saab, purchasing the Swedish firm’s assets after its collapse in 2012. A subsidiary of National Modern Energy Holdings, with a minority stake from the city of Qingdao, China. Briefly brought the Saab 9-3 back, before production ceased again; it re-emerged as an EV in 2017 with the NEVS marque. The infamous real estate group Evergrande purchased 51 per cent of NEVS’s shares in 2019, then all its shares the following year, before running into trouble itself. NEVS halted its product development activities in April 2023, citing its ‘hibernation plan’.
