Founded in 1952, Jiangnan branched out into car manufacture in 1988, with a minicar patterned after the Aixams of France. Jiangnan then secured a licence from Suzuki to produce a version of the Fronte, with additional products developed from that. The company merged in 2005 with Tongtian, and production came to an end in 2006. However, after its acquisition by Zotye in 2007, production recommenced, with the Fronte-based model revived.
