Isuzu MU/Isuzu Amigo/Vauxhall Frontera (UCS17/UCS55/UCS69). 1989–98 (prod. n/a). 3-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 1998, 2255, 2559 cm³ petrol, 2260, 2771 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1998, 2198, 2410 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2499, 2999 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 3059 cm³ petrol, 3059 cm³ diesel (V6 OHV), 3165 cm³ (V6 OHC), 3165 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Pick-up-derived SUV, curiously called the Mysterious Utility (MU) in Japan, though sometimes denoted by the Greek letter μ in lowercase. Two versions: one with a tonneau cover for the back, and one with a hardtop. Poor results in safety tests; noisy, unrefined and slow steering; but reasonably capable off-road. Double wishbones at front and a combination of a rigid axle and semi-elliptical leaf springs at rear. Very popular at the time, with Isuzu catching the first wave of interest in sport-utility vehicles in the US, where the MU was built as the Amigo. The soft-top was deleted in 1992 in Japan. Honda sold the car as the Jazz from 1993 to 1996 under an OEM deal. Change in the fuel injection system in 1997. Vauxhall Frontera version made in England, exported as Opel and Holden Frontera.

Manufacturing locations: Lafayette, Indiana, USA; Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan; Luton, Bedfordshire, England
