GAZ-23. 1962–70 (prod. 603). 4-door saloon. F/R, 5522 cm³ (V8 OHV). V8 version of the GAZ-21 for Soviet special services, not sold to civilians, with Chaika-based ZMZ-23 V8 and similar automatic transmission, good for 170 km/h (40 km/h more than a standard GAZ-21), and 0–100 km/h in 16 s (cf. 34 s for GAZ 21). Work began in 1959 under B. Dekhtyar. Stronger body, larger radiator (based on GAZ 13 Chaika’s), new drum brakes, suspension with reinforced springs front and rear. Over 300 kg heavier.
