1979 Ford Granada.jpg

Ford Granada. 1975–80 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 200, 250 in³ (I6 OHV), 302, 351 in³ (V8 OHV). Compact- to mid-size (by US standards) sedan, marketed as a Mercedes-Benz alternative. On Maverick chassis, which could trace its roots to the original Ford Falcon (1960–3), so not the newest technology, but positioned higher up. Fussy interior styling and detailing, and heavy, with poor handling. Base 200 in³ engine severely underpowered. Fairly attractive exterior styling and actually became a best seller in the Ford Division in the US, bridging the gap between fuel-conscious large-car buyers and compact buyers wanting a premium model. Mid-term facelift 1978. Twinned with Mercury Monarch.

Manufacturing locations: Mahwah, New Jersey, USA; Wayne, Michigan, USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Granada | Successor: Ford Granada (1981–2)
