Ford had a Galaxie in the North and South American ranges for many years, and the model was sold in Australasia, but the Galaxy—with a y—first appeared in South America on Argentinian export versions of the Volkswagen Passat-based Ford Versailles. Interestingly, the second use of Galaxy was for another Volkswagen-based, Ford-badged product, a minivan for the European market twinned with the Volkswagen Sharan. Ford continued the nameplate for its own, non-VW minivan in 2006.
