Ford Fairmont (XF). 1984–8 (prod. 278,101 all XF, incl. commercials). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 4089 cm³ (I6 OHV). Luxury version of Falcon, sold only with the 4·1, the V8s having been consigned to history (for now). Carburettor or fuel injection, the latter developing 121 kW, down on the old 4·9’s 140 kW. Four-speed manual, later giving way to a five-speed unit, or three-speed automatic.
