DAF 66
From AutocadeDAF 66. 1972–6 (prod. 101,967). 2-door saloon, 3-door estate, 2-door coupé. F/R, 1108, 1289 cm³ (I4 OHV). Successor to 55, with boxy front end and narrower rear lights. Renault Cléon–Fonte engines now with lower emissions, outputs of 54 PS and 61 PS (for Marathon). Swing axle rear suspension gave way to a leaf-sprung de Dion axle, aiding ride and handling, while Variomatic transmission redesigned to incorporate a differential. Drum brakes for cheaper models; more upscale ones with disc brakes up front. Larger 1·3 (77 PS) for Marathon models from 1973, with fog lights in grille. Succeeded by Volvo version after the Swedish company took control of DAF.
