From AutocadeChevrolet Volt. 2011–15 (prod. 12,400 to end of 2011). 5-door sedan. F/F, 16 kWh–1398 cm³, 16·5 kWh–1398 cm³ plug-in electric–petrol (I4 DOHC). Electric car with a petrol engine as support, rather than the other way around as seen on Toyota Prius. Styling dulled down from show car, and Delta II platform shared with Opel Astra J and Daewoo Lacetti (J300). Sales from December 2010, with a very slow uptake, despite government rebates. Very fuel-efficient, with EPA rating all-electric mode at 93 mpg (US), but petrol-only mode at 37 mpg (US), though high list price meant that real savings would take some time to recoup for buyers. Differed slightly from Opel Ampera in styling, though largely identical to export Holden version. Numerous awards, and criticisms in media at the time, with hype surrounding a fire risk that the NTHSA could not reproduce. Heavy though dynamically sound, and slightly short on space in the rear seat and boot.
