From AutocadeBentley Mulsanne. 1980–92 (prod. 2,019). 4-door saloon, 4-door LWB saloon, 4-door limousine. F/R, 6750 cm³ (V8 OHV). Bentley began getting its identity back with Mulsanne. Initially a cheaper Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, turbocharged model (1982–5) attempted to recall performance heritage and ‘Blower’ Bentleys. Modern Bentleys probably owe their existence to the Mulsanne: thanks to the turbo, Rolls-Royce began seeing the brand’s cachet again. Fuel injection from 1986; S from 1987 to 1992 had no turbocharger, but some of the Turbo’s trim details. Heavy car, bought for those wanting a fast, luxurious saloon. Turbo R effectively replaced Mulsanne Turbo in 1985; Brooklands took over Mulsanne’s role. Basic Bentley Eight spawned off this line in 1984.
