BMW enters the SUV market, though it called its X5 an SAV—Sports Activity Vehicle. Made at its South Carolina factory, and primarily aimed at the US. Far more sporting than its rivals, with excellent handling considering its high centre of gravity, and rearward bias so X5 felt like a rear-wheel-drive BMW. Familiar cabin.
