From AutocadeShowing upward mobility—and to counter the attack from the Audi A5, BMW replaced its former 2-door 3-series models with the 4-series, a name actually once floated in the 1970s as a potential replacement for the 3 then. More upmarket, and wider, longer and lower, than the 3, allowing BMW to charge a premium. Range mirrored BMW 6er-Reihe with coupé, cabriolet and Gran Coupé.
