Premium version of Volkswagen Golf, with stylish and restrained Audi styling, well balanced car. Sportback five-door added 2004 with single-frame grille, introduced on three-doors by 2005. S3 launched 2005—excellent high-performance hot hatch with 265 PS on turbocharged 2·0 model. Environmental e model from 2007 with 1·9 diesel with less than 120 g/km carbon dioxide emissions. Convertible, in the vein of old VW Golf Cabrios, announced late 2007.
