Volkswagen Golf V-based Octavia, following formula of previous model. Dynamically similar if not better than Golf, but with cheaper materials. Very economical diesels. Superb-like facelift for 2009. Badged Laura in India, to differentiate from earlier Octavia, which was briefly sold alongside it. Four-wheel-drive models this generation, including Scout, an Octavia 4WD estate with cladding and a higher ride height. Niche partly filled by Rapid prior to deletion as third-generation Octavia grew in size.
