Nissan Leopard (JY33). 1996–9 (prod. 10,000 approx.). 4-door hardtop sedan. F/R, F/A, 1998, 2960 cm³ (V6 OHC), 2495 cm³ (I6 DOHC), 2495, 2987 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Another model cycle, another complete change of concept—one reason for Nissan’s poor financial performance in the 1990s. The bulbous design of J. Ferie gave way to a conventional hardtop sedan in the Cedric and Gloria mould—Leopard shared many components with the long-running full-size lines. No export Infiniti model this time. Only distinction was that Leopard had Nissan’s first direct-injection engine. Side airbags from August 1996, mid-term changes October 1997. Eventually absorbed into the Gloria line.
