From Autocade
Latest revision as of 07:13, 18 January 2020The first version of BMC’s ADO17 mid-size car to be launched, bearing an Austin badge. Originally intended to replace the Farina (Austin Cambridge) saloons but wound up a class too big, with sales suffering as a result. Very roomy—a lot of space for the length—and strong, but not what the British buying public expected. The 1800 fared somewhat better in Australia where its toughness was appreciated. A second-generation 1800 appeared for half a year in 1975 before being renamed Princess.
