F/R, F/A, 1796 cm³ petrol, 1796 cm³ petrol–CNG, 2148 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 2685 cm³ diesel (I5 DOHC), 3222 cm³ (I6 DOHC), 2597, 3199 cm³ (V6 OHC), 2496, 2996, 3498 cm³ petrol, 2987 cm³ diesel (V6 DOHC), 5439 cm³ (V8 OHC), 3996, 4966, 5461, 6208 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Large mid-level range of Mercedes-Benz cars, replacing relatively fragile W210. Mercedes upped the quality of W211, making the range better built, with engineering at the core, though still not as reliable compared to its rivals as old W124. Low drag coefficient of 0,26 on most aerodynamic model. Facelift in 2006. E500 called E550 in US.
