McLaren F1. 1992–8 (prod. 106). 2-door coupé. M/R, 6064 cm³ (V12 DOHC). Kiwi name finally adorned a road car beyond Bruce McLaren’s prototypes of the late 1960s, with a model that became the world’s fastest production car in the late 1990s, a record held until 2005. Conceived by Gordon Murray, with specially designed, naturally aspirated BMW V12 with 627 PS. Three seats, with driver at centre, not dissimilar to Matra–Simca Bagheera. LM from 1995, GT from 1997; GTR from 1995 to 1997, used in GT racing, including Le Mans in 1995.
