Hyundai Elantra (J1). 1990–5 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1468 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1497, 1596, 1796 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Hyundai plugs the gap between the Excel and Sonata with a C-segment sedan. Name a contraction of élan and transport. Inoffensive, clean styling, and roomy for the segment, but noisy compared with rivals, with a harsh ride. Mid-term facelift in 1993. Exported to some markets as Lantra.
