1996 Hyundai Elantra Wagon.jpg

Hyundai Avante (J2/RD/GF2/GF3/JF2/JF3). 1995–2000 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 1495 cm³ petrol, 1905 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1599, 1795, 1975 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Curvy and quick (in 1·8 and 2·0-litre guise) mid-sizer, replacing Elantra in the home market, and carried Elantra or Lantra nameplates in foreign markets. A transitional car, bridging the cheap Hyundais that gave the company its start, and more premium models in the 21st century. Aimed at the CD segment, including repmobiles, but not quite large enough, with rear-seat passengers more cramped, especially in sedan. Cheap-looking, dull and plasticky interior. Good roadholding with decent ride, though light steering. Effective brakes. Some reliability issues initially and not the best built. Diesel engine supplied by Peugeot.

Manufacturing location: Ulsan, Korea

Marque: Hyundai | Model: Hyundai Avante | Predecessor: Hyundai Elantra (J1) | Successor: Hyundai Avante XD
