Chrysler Sunbeam LS.jpg

Chrysler Sunbeam (R429). 1977–9 (prod. 200,000 approx., incl. Talbot). 3-door saloon. F/R, 928 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1295, 1598 cm³ (I4 OHV), 2172 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Cut-down Avenger, developed in then-record time (19 months) to provide Chrysler with a small car to compete with Ford Fiesta. Glass hatch necessitated high sill, so not that practical, but crisp lines meant that Sunbeam was a contemporary looking car. Ti model redeveloped from old Hillman Avenger Tiger in 1979, with 1·6, but the pièce de résistance was the Sunbeam Lotus, which was shown the same year. Talbot marque from 1979.

Manufacturing location: Linwood, Scotland

Marque: Chrysler | Predecessors: Hillman Imp, Sunbeam Sport | Successor: Talbot Sunbeam
