Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport.jpg

Chevrolet Celebrity (A-car). 1982–90 (prod. 2,123,803 excl. 1990). 2- and 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 2474 cm³ (I4 OHV), 2836, 3135 cm³ petrol, 4261 cm³ diesel (V6 OHV). GM moves A-cars on to front-drive platform, with Celebrity the Chevrolet equivalent of the Pontiac 6000, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and Buick Century (1982–96). Essentially a development of the X-body Chevrolet Citation, with the same platform and wheelbase, but more sheetmetal (an extra 11 in to the overall length) for it to be sold as a mid-sizer rather than a compact. Wagons from 1984 model year. Eurosport option, beginning the same year, had firmer suspension and better handling. High-output 2·8 from Citation added. Minor facelift that year as well. Diesel to end of 1985 model year. More substantial facelift for 1986. Minor changes to the end of the run, with changes to base engine in 1988. Two-door deleted for 1989 and 1990 model years, when the car seemed outmoded alongside Ford Taurus Mk I.
