1985 Austin Metro HLE.jpg

Austin Metro/Metro (LC8). 1985–90 (prod. 2,078,218 for 1980–98 incl. Rover 100). 3- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 998, 1275 cm³ (I4 OHV). Facelifted with new dashboard and suspension improvements, plus addition of all-important five-door model. Austin badge disappeared at the end of 1987, with Metro becoming a marque, but cars were no different other than initially a ‘Metro’ badge on grille, then a Rover-like one. No fifth gear, considered a major handicap outside the UK.
