Seen as the replacement for the [Mini], which was 21 years old at the time of the Metro’s, or more precisely, Mini Metro’s, launch. Clean design for the ’80s and seen as a potential saviour for BL, which had spent years developing it. The Mini Metro eventually lost the Mini tag, and the cars became the Austin Metro. Soon, the Austin marque was phased out and the only badge it carried read Metro.
