Volkswagen Passat/Shanghai Volkswagen New Passat (NMS). 2011 to date (prod. unknown). 4-door sedan. F/F, 1390, 1798, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1968 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. DOHC), 2480 cm³ (5 cyl. DOHC), 2975, 3597 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Mid-sized challenger designed to take on Ford Fusion (CD338) and Toyota Camry (XV40) in US market. Passat moniker, but larger than B7 model sold outside North America. Built in US at new factory to take advantage of lower labour costs and sourcing from México. Target at 2011 launch was to get Volkswagen into the volume market again in US. Lighter than European model. Multi-link rear suspension, front MacPherson struts. Chinese model launched as New Passat, with 1·4-, 1·8- and 2-litre fours, topped with 3-litre V6.
