Standard Herald Mk III.jpg

Standard Herald. 1965–71 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door saloon, 5-door estate, 2-door convertible. F/R, 948 cm³ (I4 OHV). Originally a facsimile of the Triumph Herald, made from CKD kits until 1965, when gearbox and engine, among other items, were sourced in India, raising the local content. Herald Mk II from 1966, with grille and front fascia inspired by the Triumph Vitesse, though Standard opted to fit indicators on the outward lights rather than have twin headlamps. Indian-developed four-door Mk III from 1968, with five-door Companion estate introduced 1969, using a fibreglass roof. Considered reasonably luxurious in India’s then-closed market, but rare.

Manufacturing location: Madras, Tamil Nadu, India

Marque: Standard | Successor: Standard Gazel
