2000 Proton Impian.jpg

Proton Waja. 2000–11 (prod. over 292,556 sold). 4-door sedan, 4-door LWB sedan. F/F, 1584 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1597, 1598, 1783, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Proton’s first ground-up model, though originally launched with a Mitsubishi 1·6 until its own-designed engines came on stream. Decent handling, thanks to Proton’s ownership of Lotus at the time, but not that well resolved as a package, and interior fittings left something to be desired. Decent levels of equipment, but not that well priced abroad. Stretched model, Chancellor, from 2005, with 2·0-litre Mitsubishi engine. Facelifted in 2006. Exported to the UK and Pakistan as Impian.

Manufacturing location: Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia

Marque: Proton | Successor: Proton Inspira
