Revision as of 22:16, 2 March 2014Pontiac Grand LeMans. 1982–3 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 3791 cm³ petrol, 4261 cm³ diesel (V6 OHV), 4129, 5001 cm³ petrol, 5737 cm³ diesel (V8 OHV). The wrong car at the wrong time. Seeing that its B-body full-size vehicles were not moving off the sales’ floors—or, for that matter, its intermediates—Pontiac touched up its mid-sizers (the 1977–81 LeMans) and put the Bonneville name on them for the US market, providing a ‘leaner’ luxury car, designated Model G. The gamble didn’t work, as Americans started returning to gas guzzlers during the Model G’s run (the tag was later dropped), and Pontiac dealers brought in the Canadian Parisienne to fill the gap at the top end. Grand LeMans in Canada, where they were from.
