Opel extended its aerodynamic thinking to its large cars, with Omega replacing Rekord. It was European Car of the Year in its 1986 launch year, and was even built as a Chevrolet in Brazil from 1992, while a second-generation model began coming out of the Rüsselsheim plant early in 1994. The hot Lotus Omega version was only available as part of the first generation. Both Omegas wound up being enlarged by Holden for its Commodore line. Vauxhall sold the the first Omega as the Carlton, but it adopted the Omega name for the second generation.
