1983 Nissan Cherry.jpg

Nissan Pulsar/Holden Astra (N12). 1982–7 (prod. n/a). 3-, 4- and 5-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, 987, 1269, 1488 cm³ petrol, 1681 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Stylish at launch and a step forward from rounded N10, N12 Pulsar initially appeared as hatchbacks, with formal-roofline two-door coupé called EXA (exported as NX to North America). Competent, front-wheel-drive engineering with excellent engines, but average to drive and bodywork not the best. Built in Australia from 1983 to 1984, then with Langley-style grille in Australia after 1984; regular Pulsar was the Holden Astra there. Sold with Cherry nameplate in Europe. Odd spin-off included Alfa Romeo Arna, Pulsar body with Alfasud engines, also sold as Nissan Pulsar Milano or Nissan Cherry Europe. Japanese production ceased 1986.

Manufacturing locations: Japan; Clayton, Victoria, Australia

Marque: Nissan | Model: Nissan Pulsar | Predecessor: Nissan Pulsar (N10) | Successors: Nissan Pulsar (N13), Nissan EXA

q.v. Nissan Liberta Villa (N12)
