Mitsubishi Lancer EX. 1979–88 (prod. n/a). F/R, 1244, 1410, 1597, 1795, 1997 cm³ (I4 OHC). Last rear-wheel-drive Lancer, with squared-off styling by Aldo Sessano looking very modern on launch in April 1979. Very smooth engine thanks to Silent Shaft system. Turbo 1·8 model from 1980, with EX 2000 Turbo for export from 1981, continuing Lancer’s competition reputation. Disappeared in many countries with advent of front-drive Mirage-based model (Lancer Fiore) from 1982 and second generation of that line from 1983, though not directly replaced till 1988.
