In 1961, the full-size entry-level car for Mercury, but the nameplate was quickly shifted to a mid-sized (by US standards) model for 1962–3. When the separate Meteor marque in Canada was abandoned in the late 1960s, all Meteor models became Mercurys, giving rise to a few more years of this nameplate. Eventually, the Meteor was absorbed into the Mercury Marquis range.
