Diesel from [[Mazda]], from 1984, but unpopular as fuel crisis panic wore off; 1·9 from 1985 as 1·6 deleted. CVH petrol engines considered harsh. Turbo 1·6 option in 1984–5. Inoffensive, as with Escort.
